Instrumental Music at Point RoadHere at Point Road School we offer a variety of wind instruments in both the brass and woodwind families. Students interested in learning a band instrument can choose between the clarinet, flute, saxophone, trumpet, and trombone.
Lessons are approximately 35 minutes long and are held once a week before school. Lessons start at 7:30 am and conclude at 8:05 am. Our lesson schedule is as follows: Monday: Clarinet Tuesday: Flute Wednesday: Saxophone Thursday: Trumpet Friday: Trombone Please be sure to check our lesson schedule calendar for updated lesson information, as well as scheduled dates for Full Band rehearsals. If your instrument needs repair, it must be in the music room by 3:15 PM on Thursday afternoon. Many times I will be able to fix these issues in a matter of minutes but if I cannot the representative from City Music Center comes every Friday morning before school starts. |
Practice, Practice, Practice!!! "How do you get to Carnegie Hall? Practice!"
A great practice regiment is consistent and focuses on areas that need improvement. Students should start their weekly practice the afternoon/ night of their lesson. This will ensure that students will have the new material fresh in their minds, as well as what areas they might need to show improvement. Remember, a minimum of 4 times a week is required for all practice regiments. Also, a practice session should be no less than 15-20 minutes. If students are having issues with a certain assignment or skill please do not hesitate to come visit me after school or during recess time. Issues are usually fixed quickly and will make practicing more enjoyable, and most importantly, more productive. "Improper" or unfocused practice time is almost as much a detriment as no practice time!!! Remember, "Perfect" practice makes perfect! Here are a few helpful tips!
